Waterstone Studio was established in 1980 by Catherine Winship. Catherine, who is first a potter, has been working and teaching with clay, glazes and natural pigments for 38 years. She now specializes in the creation of custom art and architectural tiles "from scratch". In recent years her signature pieces have been Maine coast seascapes inspired by her lifelong love of Down East Maine.

Tina Grivois joined Waterstone in 2004. She has studied art and nature for over 30 years and applied her artistry primarily to drawing and woodcarving before venturing into the world of clay. She reflects upon her roots from "The County", Aroostook County, Maine.

Together, Catherine and Tina have studied the works of many artists, most recently that of American "primitive" painter, Rufus Porter, and have applied his vision to award winning commissioned pieces. They encourage each other to be open to new challenges while creating with pigments and clay to produce handmade and very useful, artistic and durable tiles.
